Oh Labour

I read a very interesting article from a Lady (who's name I can't remember) about Labours inability to get itself elected into government. It was a thing of beauty, full of diagrams indicating what people thought about the various views the public had regarding Brexit and Covid. It went on at tremendous length and detail about why people kept on voting for a more authoritarian type of leadership to navigate through these seemingly increasing troubled waters.  Thirty Three per cent! This number permeated the article at various points, screaming out to the reader. This was the number they claimed the Tory's won the last election with. I have no idea if this is true, and I can't be bothered to look it up. But the presentation was wonderful. I didn't really understand most of it though because at it's root, was word vomit. You can't see the wood for the tree's I watched some of Labours last party conference, It was ugly, I found myself cringing the fact that...

Critical Race Theory (CRT) for dummies

Image
For all you self proclaimed CRT scholars, this isn't for you. I've studied CRT for about 5 years now, I have spoken to fans of CRT and debated them. I am not a scholar, which is why the title is what it is. It's not for academics, neither is it completely dumbed down. It is simply my opinion on what I believe to be a very blinkered approach to life and not just to education. As "woke" culture continues to gather steam like a runaway train on steroids. I have to ask myself when (or if) It will ever slow down I hate identity politics, putting people in little boxes will only conflate to division, resentment and eventually outright hatred. Now I've read Critical Race Theory: The key writings that formed the movement , all 528 pages of it. It's a bunch of poorly reasoned essays fighting as best it can to find racism : Theories that will never achieve the end goal it so desires. In fact, the exact opposite is true. To be fair however, the end goal they try to p...

To be human

I sometimes wish I could go back to a simpler time, How often do I read that? Maybe every day, I won't speculate. Maybe today, for me is the "simpler time" I am reasonably comfortable financially. I have my own little flat with no mortgage and a means of travelling that suits me in terms of the comfort I need. That's how life in a Western democracy is all about surely? Well maybe not. The basic concept of communism was exactly the same "Russian times were actually quite good" remarked an Estonian friend of mine. Mildly pointing out that somewhere warm to live and a job were very much cornerstones of the society she grew up in. Until democracy came, the jobs dried up and she was economically forced to migrate to Britain to find a job. Simpler times indeed! I'm an avid reader, my ever expanding library ranges from the musings of the cartoon characters Andy Capp & the Perishers, to something less realistic like the build-up of Atomic warheads by countri...

Feminism

Image
I've never really had to struggle with the concept of Feminism. Growing up I was aware of it, but I never came across any Woman who actually mentioned the word let alone proclaiming to be a Feminist. I'd always been acutely aware of Man-bashing and Woman-bashing, but it was always something said either in jest or from the pain of a relationship breakdown and were lashing out from frustration. But on the whole, we were equal and we had equal opportunity. Of course, there was the media articles on topics such as domestic violence and the gender wage gap but 99% of people I knew simply had "jobs" not careers. The wage gap was something that had no real meaning in my lived experience. Most people were on PAYE and nobody was paid extra because of their sex. Feminism was a construct for posh people to complain about how unfair everything was, whereas us commoners down here in the coal face, just went about the rest of our lives in a happy yet oftentimes struggling existence...

The 81

I don't really use social media much to be honest. but I do frequent twitter the most often. It's not a bad way to keep in touch with current affairs seeing as all the global major media companies have a profile on it. So it's fairly useful in avoiding becoming trapped in a vacuum of the single voice. Today, the Guardian (which is traditionally Man hating and white hating) posted an article regarding the 81 Women who have been murdered in the past 28 weeks in Britain, thought to be at the hands of a Male perpetrator I wish I could say I was shocked, but I'm not. Heartbroken of course, but not surprised. To see the CCTV footage of Sarah Everards last known sighting before she was so callously taken from us is something I am never likely to forget. I wanted to write something at the time, but tears coupled with so much anger prevented me doing so This is not a new phenomenon obviously, but the most worrying thing is it doesn't seem to be improving (It's definitel...
