But, but this is something I like.

It never fails. One minute you're taking part in a street protest about some issue or another, because you are a soul of purity, truth and good virtue. And a snap of the fingers later its affecting something you like.

A tale as old as time

One of my favourite historians James Holland, who is a good and kind man, who spoke out about the lack of compassion for migrants desperately fleeing war torn France.

Just as long as it didn't affect something he liked

No, i never meant right here. This is a thing I like

Indeed, where is the compassion. It's only an old airfield after all (I'm kidding, I'm a huge WWII buff)

The things is with migrants. They don't pitch up on our shores with their own houses on their backs a full bill of good health and 5 miles of road.

Of course, there is very little mention of what the villages surrounding Scampton would have to suffer (there are more than half a dozen villages close to Scampton, some with a population of under 200)

No, the most worrysome thing was how it would affect something James Holland likes.

2,000 migrants was the original plan. Imagine living in a tiny village and having 2,000 migrants dumped on your doorstep?

Ahh yes. Its the old trope. I want refugees/asylum seekers or whatever you want to call them to have somewhere safe to live in Britain.....Just as long as its not near me or affect anything i like.

And who could forget Labours very own far left MP for Wigan, Lisa "refugees welcome here" Nandy

Ahh, the sweet satisfaction of a virtue signal

But.....

She was "appalled" Sadly, she wasn't appalled at her pathetic virtue signalling, which she should have resigned in disgrace over. She was appalled at everyone else.

With net migration at well over half a million people, economic migrants do have to live somewhere, but that somewhere doesn't include her (or any people that might vote for her)

So lets Segue. Lets talk all about investment management firm Baillie Gifford. Never heard of them? No, most people wont have. But they are a very philanthropic group. they invest in many good causes. A fine firm, an ethical firm. but are they fine and ethical enough?

Well no (at least not for some)

Baillie Gifford has recently withdrawn its sponsorship from several book festivals, including the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Borders Book Festival.

Oh no, you might ask. why would they do such a thing?

This decision came amid pressure and threats of disruption from environmental activists. These activists have criticized Baillie Gifford for its investments in fossil fuels and companies linked to the defense sector, labeling the firm as contradictory to the festivals' ethos of promoting sustainable and ethical practices.

Oh now i get it.

Rather than release a statement declaring their great virtue and promising to be better boys in the future. Baillie Gifford just pulled out.

Oops! Well that never went as planned

Of course, this didn't go down well with the liberal luvvies. Bloviating windbag Marina Hyde went on a podcast recently saying we should keep politics out of it.

Yes, we should keep politics out of it because this is something Marina likes. If it was Dave the window cleaner held up on the M25 because idiots are blocking the road, and now he's 2 months behind on his mortgage payments. Marina wouldn't care so much.

But I'm in agreement with Baillie Gifford to be honest. They don't engage in illegal activity and are a pretty noble bunch it seems. Why should they bow down to extremist nutters?

Why should anyone?

As for the book festivals, well, sorry about that, you should have denounced the nutters and got some security.
